-
Ascophyllum nodosum- Laminaria Digitata
"Toxicological uses: Because the age of the different parts of A. nodosum can be identified by its shoots,
A. nodusum has also been used to monitor concentrations of heavy metals in sea water. A concentration factor for zinc has been reported to be of the order 10 to the fourth."

"algin" "Seaweeds are a great functional food for improving your health and detoxing heavy metals. Seaweeds contain a substance called algin which is a polysaccharide that binds to radioactive elements such as heavy metals. Alginates cant be broken down by bile or saliva and thus are not absorbed by the body, whatever has binded to the alginates is then eliminated from the body. Some worry about the possible contamination of heavy metals in sea foods and products, but this really isn??t an issue because the algins bind to any metals in the seaweed and render them useless, which are then eliminated by the body.
There is one seaweed product in particular which has been designed for heavy metal detoxification which is known as modifilan or brown seaweed extract. This product is an 40:1 extract powder of a species of brown seaweed known as Laminaria Japonica. This seaweed extract has high levels of alginates for heavy metal detoxification."
